I was just thinking of this the other day, and since the old blog has gone away I thought I would re-upload it: a BASIC program that plays Minesweeper, in the style of the classic Creative Computing BASIC games programs. If you're of a certain age, you will remember the Creative Computing game books, and how you would spend your weekends typing in stuff that looked good so that you could play Super Star Trek, or Hunt the Wumpus, or any other of a huge list of games.
While the game is most associated with Microsoft's Windows OS, it has its roots in these BASIC games that were written and distributed in the 1960s and 1970s, so it made sense to write up a version in the style of the game software that kids in the 1980s will remember. I created this version in July of 2007, using a BASIC interpreter to run the script and a font that looks remarkably close to the teletype printouts that were in the original books.
